Hand Out or Hand Up

Have you ever noticed that the socialists, I mean liberals in our country are OK with walking around with a hand out, while the conservatives tend to work hard at providing a hand up? I work damn hard for the money I have and I'll be hard-pressed to allow anybody to take it from me and give it to somebody else. Don't get me wrong ... I believe in helping my neighbor as much as the next gal ... paint their fence, watch their dog while they're on vacation, or pick up their kids from soccer practice, because they have to work late. I won't help them make their mortgage payment or put gas in the car. We all need to live within our means, however small or large those means may be. Making wise buying and borrowing decisions are an individual responsibility. Looking ahead to the future for signs that change may be coming at work, in government, in life and then developing a plan to ride through the changes is an individual responsibility. If I don't plan ahead, I expect to pay for and suffer through the consequences. Shouldn't everyone do the same?
